Performance assessment is fundamental for skill and competence development in professional education and training. This paper reviews the methods and metrics for performance assessment during maritime simulator-based education and training process, and creates an understanding regarding the current stage of knowledge and tools that could be used to systematically evaluate the student's learning progress and achievement to support learning technology development and theoretically informed maritime education. Performance assessments under desktop simulator-, full-scale simulator-, VR/AR- and cloud simulator-based training process have been selected as the focus areas of this study. High-quality professional education and training is important for improving workforce skills and sustainable development. This paper hopes to provide an opportunity to reflect on the learning assessment issues and opportunities to elevate the future of learning.en_US
