Mapping Marine Macroalgae along the Norwegian Coast Using Hyperspectral UAV Imaging and Convolutional Nets for Semantic Segmentation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-10-20)Marine macroalgae form underwater "blue forests" with several important functions. Hyperspectral imaging from unmanned aerial vehicles provides a rich set of spectral and spatial data that can be used to map the distribution of such macroalgae. Results from a study using 81 annotated hyper-spectral images from the Norwegian coast are presented. A U-net convolutional network was used for classification, ... -
Real-Time Voxel-based 2D to 3D CT Visualisation Framework for Volumetric Capacity Estimation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2022)Over the decades medical analyses have grown in importance and practice possibilities. Digital operations like split-image procedures have become an integral part of modern medical practices and are still gaining momentum. Through the application of this technique medical computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging scans (MRI) can be converted to three-dimensional bodies. This paper ... -
Path Planning for Perception-Driven Obstacle-Aided Snake Robot Locomotion
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2020)Development of snake robots have been motivated by the ability of snakes to move efficiently in unstructured and cluttered environments. A snake robot has the potential to utilise obstacles for generating locomotion, in contrast to wheeled robots which are unable to move efficiently in rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a local path planning algorithm for snake robots based on obstacle-aided ... -
Generalized Chessboard Structures Whose Effective Conductivities Are Integer Valued
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012-03-06)We consider generalized chessboard structures where the local conductivity takes two values 𝑎 and 𝑏 . All integer combinations of 𝑎 and 𝑏 which make the components of effective conductivity matrix integer valued are found. Moreover, we discuss the problem of estimating the effective conductivity matrix by using the finite-element method. -

Blending spline surfaces over polygon mesh and their application to isogeometric analysis
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-11)Finite elements are allowed to be of a shape suitable for the specific problem. This choice defines thereafter the accuracy of the approximated solution. Moreover, flexible element shapes allow for the construction of an arbitrary domain topology. Polygon meshes are a common representation of the domain that cover any choice of the finite element shape. Being an alternative tool for modeling and ... -
Some New Weak (Hp- Lp)-Type Inequality for Weighted Maximal Operators of Partial Sums of Walsh–Fourier Series
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-08-18)In this paper, we introduce some new weighted maximal operators of the partial sums of the Walsh–Fourier series. We prove that for some “optimal” weights these new operators indeed are bounded from the martingale Hardy space Hp(G) to the Lebesgue space weak−Lp(G), for 0<p<1. Moreover, we also prove sharpness of this result. As a consequence we obtain some new and well-known ... -

E-Mobility and Batteries—A Business Case for Flexibility in the Arctic Region
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-28)This paper provides a method for determining the economic incentives and limitations for a battery used for peak clipping, with the goal of finding an optimal mix between the battery’s power density and energy density. A ratio called the R-factor has been introduced, which helps determine the energy demand to curb the peak. The paper’s results embrace different investment scenarios showing what ... -
On the Heat and Wave Equations with the Sturm-Liouville Operator in Quantum Calculus
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-01-19)In this paper, we explore a generalised solution of the Cauchy problems for the q-heat and q-wave equations which are generated by Jackson’s and the q-Sturm-Liouville operators with respect to t and x, respectively. For this, we use a new method, where a crucial tool is used to represent functions in the Fourier series expansions in a Hilbert space on quantum calculus. We show that these solutions ... -

Some new refinements of the Young, Hölder, and Minkowski inequalities
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-21)We prove and discuss some new refined Hölder inequalities for any p>1 and also a reversed version for 0<p<1. The key is to use the concepts of superquadraticity, strong convexity, and to first prove the corresponding refinements of the Young and reversed Young inequalities. Refinements of the Minkowski and reversed Minkowski inequalities are also given. -
Some weak type inequalities and almost everywhere convergence of Vilenkin–Nörlund means
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-05-04)We prove and discuss some new weak type (1, 1) inequalities of maximal operators of Vilenkin–Nörlund means generated by monotone coefficients. Moreover, we use these results to prove a.e. convergence of such Vilenkin–Nörlund means. As applications, both some well-known and new inequalities are pointed out. -

Homogenization of Ferromagnetic Energies on Poisson Random Sets in the Plane
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-01-06)We prove that by scaling nearest-neighbour ferromagnetic energies de ned on Poisson random sets in the plane we obtain an isotropic perimeter energy with a surface tension characterised by an asymptotic formula. The result relies on proving that cells with `very long' or `very short' edges of the corresponding Voronoi tessellation can be neglected. In this way we may apply Geometry Measure ... -
Vilenkin–Lebesgue Points and Almost Everywhere Convergence for Some Classical Summability Methods
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-17)The concept of Vilenkin–Lebesgue points was introduced in [12], where the almost everywhere convergence of Fejer means of Vilenkin–Fourier series was proved. In this paper, we present a different (and simpler) approach to prove a similar result, which can be used to prove that the corresponding result holds also in a more general context, namely for regular Norlund and T-means. -
Large deviations for Markov jump processes in periodic and locally periodic environments
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-12)The paper deals with a family of jump Markov process defined in a medium with a periodic or locally periodic microstructure. We assume that the generator of the process is a zero order convolution type operator with rapidly oscillating locally periodic coefficient and, under natural ellipticity and localization conditions, show that the family satisfies the large deviation principle in the path space ... -
