Past Negative Consequences of Unnecessary Delay as a Marker of Procrastination
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-02-21)Standard definitions of procrastination underscore the irrational nature of this habit, a critical criterion being that the procrastinating individual delays despite expecting to be worse off for the delay. However, an examination of more than 175 items in 18 procrastination scales reveals that they do not address such a forward-looking criterion. Consequently, scales run the risk of not separating ... -
Effects of self-instructed stimulus-affect plans on indirectly measured and self-reported evaluative responses
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-01-06)Repeatedly experiencing a specific stimulus-affect contingency influences subsequent evaluative responses towards the respective stimulus (e.g., evaluative conditioning). In the present research, we provide further evidence that verbally processed stimulus-affect contingencies in the form of if-then plans have comparable evaluative consequences. We present three studies (N = 323) in which participants ... -
EXPRESS: The retention of proprioceptive information is suppressed by competing verbal and spatial task
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-11)Proprioceptive information makes us able to perceive the position of our joints from an internal point of view. In certain cases, proprioceptive information has to be stored in short-term memory, for example, during the learning of new motor skills or the assessment of proprioceptive accuracy. However, there are contradictory findings about the modality-specific storage of proprioceptive information ... -

The CROQ has not been properly validated in Norwegian patient populations. The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties ... -
Study protocol: Prevalence of low energy availability and its relation to health and performance among female football players.
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-01-10)Enduring low energy availability (LEA) is associated with several potentially serious physiological and mental conditions. LEA has been found highly prevalent among female elite athletes within endurance sports, thus hampering athletes’ health and performance. The prevalence and the underpinning risk factors of LEA among female elite football players are less studied. One reason is that the existing ... -
High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Improves Delayed Memory in Alzheimer’s Disease Patients: A Pilot Study Using Computational Modeling to Optimize Electrode Position
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-09-14)Background: The optimal stimulation parameters when using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve memory performance in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are lacking. In healthy individuals, inter-individual differences in brain anatomy significantly influence current distribution during tDCS, an effect that might be aggravated by variations in cortical atrophy in AD ... -

A multi-country test of brief reappraisal interventions on emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-08-02)The COVID-19 pandemic has increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions globally. Left unchecked, these emotional changes might have a wide array of adverse impacts. To reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal, an emotion-regulation strategy that modifies how one thinks about a situation. Participants from 87 countries and ... -
Religion and Health In Arctic Norway—The association of religious and spiritual factors with non-suicidal self-injury in the Sami and non-Sami adult population—The SAMINOR 2 Questionnaire Survey
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-05)Research has found psychological dimensions of religiosity/spirituality (R/S) beneficial against non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), whereas the effect of R/S social aspects is less studied. Using data from the SAMINOR 2 Questionnaire Survey (2012, n = 10,717 ages 18–69; response rate: 27%; non-Sami: 66%; females: 55%), we examined the association of R/S—religious attendance, congregational affiliation, ... -
Psychometric Properties and Correlates of Precarious Manhood Beliefs in 62 Nations
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-04)Precarious manhood beliefs portray manhood, relative to womanhood, as a social status that is hard to earn, easy to lose, and proven via public action. Here, we present cross-cultural data on a brief measure of precarious manhood beliefs (the Precarious Manhood Beliefs scale [PMB]) that covaries meaningfully with other cross-culturally validated gender ideologies and with country-level indices of ... -
A Multilab Study of Bilingual Infants: Exploring the Preference for Infant-Directed Speech
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-12)From the earliest months of life, infants prefer listening to and learn better from infant-directed speech (IDS) compared with adult-directed speech (ADS). Yet IDS differs within communities, across languages, and across cultures, both in form and in prevalence. This large-scale, multisite study used the diversity of bilingual infant experiences to explore the impact of different types of linguistic ... -
Does the Stereotypicality of Mothers’ Occupation Influence Children’s Communal Occupational Aspirations and Communal Orientation?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-16)Career development is a lifelong process that starts in infancy and is shaped by a number of different factors during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Even though career development is shaped through life, relatively little is known about the predictors of occupational aspirations in childhood. Therefore, in the present work we investigate how the stereotypicality of a mother’s occupation ... -
A creative destruction approach to replication: Implicit work and sex morality across cultures
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-03)How can we maximize what is learned from a replication study? In the creative destruction approach to replication, the original hypothesis is compared not only to the null hypothesis, but also to predictions derived from multiple alternative theoretical accounts of the phenomenon. To this end, new populations and measures are included in the design in addition to the original ones, to help determine ... -
What are we optimizing for in autism screening? Examination of algorithmic changes in the M‐CHAT
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-26)The present study objectives were to examine the performance of the new M-CHAT-R algorithm to the original M-CHAT algorithm. The main purpose was to examine if the algorithmic changes increase identification of children later diagnosed with ASD, and to examine if there is a trade-off when changing algorithms. We included 54,463 screened cases from the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study. ... -
