Abstract
This thesis presents original research about the motivation of first year university students of Spanish in Norway, trying to diagnose the factors that play a significant role in their choosing Spanish, the aspects of teaching that they favour, the impact of the forced digitalisation that had to be undergone due to Covid-19, and the evolution and development of their motivation and perception of the same factors along the academic year. Beyond singling out several areas as problematic from the perspective of how to keep the students' motivation across time, this thesis makes some proposals about how these issues can be addressed in the future.
