<i>Background</i> - Malignant transformation represents the natural evolution of diffuse low-grade gliomas (LGG). This is a catastrophic event, causing neurocognitive symptoms, intensified treatment and premature death. However, little is known concerning the spatial distribution of malignant transformation in patients with LGG.<p><p> <i>Materials and methods</i> - Patients histopathological ...
    • Individual Variation in Adaptive Immune Responses and Risk of Hip Fracture-A NOREPOS Population-Based Cohort Study

Dahl, Jesper; Holvik, Kristin; Heldal, Einar; Grimnes, Guri; Hoff, Mari; Finnes, Trine; Apalset, Ellen Margrete; Meyer, Haakon E (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-22)
Immune‐mediated bone loss significantly impacts fracture risk in patients with autoimmune disease, but to what extent individual variations in immune responses affect fracture risk on a population level is unknown. To examine how immune responses relate to risk of hip fracture, we looked at the individual variation in a post‐vaccination skin test response that involves some of the immune pathways ...
    • Cabin temperature during prehospital patient transport – a prospective observational study

Svendsen, Tuva; Lund-Kordahl, Inger; Fredriksen, Knut (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-13)
<i>Background</i> - Few studies have investigated the patient compartment temperatures during ambulance missions or its relation to admission hypothermia. Still hypothermia is a known risk factor for increased mortality and morbidity in both trauma and disease. This has special relevance to our sub-arctic region’s pre-hospital services, and we prospectively studied the environmental temperature in ...

<i>Background</i>: Treatment of rheumatic diseases in children often includes long-term needle injections, which represent a risk for refusing medication based on potential needle-fear. How nurses manage children’s fear and pain during the initial educational training session of subcutaneous injections, may affect the management of the subsequent injections in the home settings. The aim of this study ...
    • Diagnostic imaging and ionizing radiation exposure in a level 1 trauma centre population met with trauma team activation: a one-year patient record audit

Fifty patients ...
    • E-health in Norway Before and During the Initial Phase of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Wynn, Rolf (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020)
The use of e-health services has for many years gradually increased in Norway as in most European countries. Searching for information about health and illness has previously by far been the most popular service. In this study, we review the literature with the aim of examining any changes in e-health use during the Covid-19 pandemic. We find that there has been a marked change in Norway, with an ...
    • Endothelial function after pancreas transplantation - A single-center observational study

We aimed to compare clinical outcome after treatment of lesions in large bifurcations by simple or complex stent implantation. <p><i>Methods ...
    • Is there a seasonal variation of survival after systemic chemotherapy for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer in a rural part of North Norway?

Nieder, Carsten; Dalhaug, Astrid; Haukland, Ellinor Christin (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-03-19)
The winter darkness or polar night induces endocrine and metabolic mechanisms, which might reduce the efficacy of cancer treatment and thus contribute to shorter survival. Moreover, season-and weather-related treatment delays and irregularities might also cause reduced efficacy of anti-cancer drugs. Therefore, this study evaluated the prognostic impact of timing of chemotherapy (start during winter ...
    • PALLiON - PALLiative care Integrated in ONcology: Study protocol for a Norwegian national cluster-randomized control trial with a complex intervention of early integration of palliative care

<p><i>Background - </i>Several publications have addressed the need for a systematic integration of oncological care focused on the tumor and palliative care (PC) focused on the patient with cancer. The exponential increase in anticancer treatments and the high number of patients living longer with advanced disease have accentuated this. Internationally, there is now a persuasive argument that ...

The adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) is regarded as a particularly appropriate target for non-dopaminergic treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD). An increased A2AR availability has been found in the human striatum at early stages of PD and in patients with PD and dyskinesias. The aim of this small animal positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance (PET/MR) imaging ...
