Artsgruppeomtale tovinger (Diptera). Norsk rødliste for arter 2021. Artsdatabanken.
Choices and omissions of knowledge and social impact in Finnish committee reports on Sámi policies
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2021)In Finland, the involvement of scholars in politics has been particularly strong: scholars and professors have occupied positions in high politics, produced research that was meant as a direct comment on topical political debates, and been active in civil society (Häggman, 2012). In addition to advising high politics and acting in civil society, the Finnish committee institution, a third emerging ... -

Studies on the complex Warnowiaceae (Dinophyceae) I. Lohmann’s Pouchetia parva refound and renamed Nematodinium parvum comb. nov. (= Warnowia parva)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-08)The dinoflagellate family Warnowiaceae has often been considered to include some of the most complex cells among the protists. The number of described species is around 40, but both the species and generic concepts are in need of revision. Warnowiaceans are often fragile and readily change morphology under the light microscope, and they are usually regarded to be rare. They are particularly famous ... -
Shotgun-sequencing of plant DNA: Selection og material and methods
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2017)Initially, rbcLaand ITS2 were PCR amplified and Sanger sequenced for 564 species from 1900 specimens. To increase the amount of the genome covered, shotgun sequencing of 1670 species is in progress. Our Sanger analyses had a success rate of 74% and 85% for ITS2 and rbcLa, respectively. Overall success rate of Sanger sequencing decreased with later collection date in the year. Preliminary results of ... -
Life history of Leptagonus decagonus (Atlantic poacher) in Svalbard waters
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2012-04)<p>The demersal fish species <i>Leptagonus decagonus</i> (Atlantic poacher) is a commonly encountered species on the continental shelf in the Barents Sea and around Svalbard, but little is known about the life-history and population traits of the species in Svalbard waters. It is therefore important to investigate this species to understand its importance in the ecosystem. <p>A total of 80 specimens ... -
Rethinking Sami Agency during Living Exhibitions: From the Age of Empire to the Postwar World
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2014)In the fall of 2008, the state-owned Norwegian Broadcasting Company (NRK), a noncommercial and highly-regarded channel, presented its new Saturday night show: „The Great Travel‟. The plot was simple. Three Norwegian families were sent into the „bush‟ to live for three weeks with three different indigenous groups around the World. One of the groups, the Waorani in the Ecuadorian Amazon, appeared more ... -

Timber as a Marine Resource: Exploitation of Arctic Driftwood in the North Atlantic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2023-03-07)The North Atlantic islands of the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland have always been relatively poor in terms of native timber resources, due to their cold climate and exposed topography. Nevertheless, timber was vital to the material culture of the Norse settlers of these islands, and driftwood often met this need. As in subarctic Norway, where trees are also scarce, driftwood use and ownership ... -
Early to Middle Bronze Age agricultural terraces in north-east England: Morphology, dating and cultural implications
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-06)Terracing is found widely in the Mediterranean and in other hilly and mountainous regions of the world. Yet while archaeological attention to these ‘mundane’ landscape features has grown, they remain understudied, particularly in Northern Europe. Here, the authors present a multidisciplinary study of terraces in the Breamish Valley, Northumberland. The results date their construction to the Early ... -
The Mosaics of an Arctic Seamstress: Narrative Versions of Ada Blackjack on Wrangel Island, 1921–1923
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-04-20)This essay focuses on the narrative mosaics of Iñupiat Alaskan Ada Delutuk Blackjack, hired seamstress on an occupation colony on Wrangel Island in 1921–23, organized by renowned Canadian Arctic explorer and writer Vilhjalmur Stefansson. While the venture resulted in the tragic deaths of Blackjack’s four companions on the island, she became the expedition’s sole survivor and kept a diary during the ... -
Macro-nutritional balancing in a circumpolar boreal ruminant under winter conditions
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-08)<ol> <li>Differences in botanical diet compositions among a large number of moose faecal samples collected during winter correlated with the nutritional differences identified in the same samples (Mantel-r = 0.89, p = 0.001), but the nutritional differences were significantly smaller (p < 0.001).</li> <li>Nutritional geometry revealed that moose mixed Scots pine Pinus sylvestris and Vaccinium spp. ... -
Molecular assessment of dietary variation in neighbouring primate groups
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-02)<ol> <li>Facing rapid environmental changes and anthropogenic habitat destruction, animal behavioural plasticity becomes an adaptive potential that needs to be considered in conservation strategies along with, for example, genetic diversity. Here, we evaluate to what extent non-invasive environmental DNA (eDNA) methods may contribute to the assessment of intraspecies behavioural plasticity in terms ... -
Geometric morphometrics of macro- and meiofaunal priapulid pharyngeal teeth provides a proxy for studying Cambrian “tooth taxa”
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-08-12)Priapulids are marine, benthic ecdysozoan worms that feed using a distinctive toothed pharynx. While only a handful of lineages have survived to the present day, the Cambrian priapulid stem group left behind a rich record of articulated body fossils and characteristic trace fossils in the form of burrows. Recently, the fossil record of isolated priapulid cuticular elements including pharyngeal teeth ...
