Investigation of moisture transport in branch wood of Norway Spruce using NMR
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2024-05-15)Two samples from a specimen of a Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) branch was prepared. One opposite wood (OW) sample and one compression wood (CW) sample. Several tests using nuclear magnetic resonance were performed on these specimens to study the motion of moisture through the branch wood. The T2-experiment shows that the fibre saturation point is at 20% moisture content (MC) for OW and 25% ... -

Intelligent decision modeling for optimizing railway cold chain service networks under uncertainty
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-06-27)Railway cold chain service network design (RCC-SND) aims to optimize the utilization of stations and lines as well as train allocations in a manner that minimizes costs while satisfying the service requirements of shippers. Furthermore, the uncertainties associated with freight demand, transportation costs, quality loss, station handling capacity, and arc capacity make the RCC-SND a complex ... -
Revisiting the development trajectory of parallel machine scheduling
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-23)The research on the Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem (PMSP) has undergone significant development. The most recent comprehensive review of published studies dates back to early 2001. This article presents an algorithmic review of PMSPs, using Main Path Analysis (MPA) to identify seminal knowledge diffusion and development trajectories. This research also sheds light on the less tangible aspects ... -
Technology transfer framework review for easy Cobot adoption by SMEs
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2023-05-15)Collaborative industrial Robots (Cobots) were introduced as an advancement to traditional industrial Robots. Some advantages that were incorporated in Cobots included the ease of human interaction, safer working conditions and considerable smaller sizes. However, most Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Norway are not convinced of the merits of adopting these Cobots into their operations. This ... -

(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-10)Remanufacturing, a crucial step of reverse logistics, focuses on restoring or enhancing the functionality of waste products. The challenge in planning an effective remanufacturing reverse logistics system lies in the uncertainties from various sources. In addition, the evolving industrial landscape in Industry 5.0 necessitates adaptability to technological advancements. This paper proposes an ... -
Measuring the Effectiveness of AI-Enabled Chatbots in Customer Service Using AnyLogic Simulation
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-01-26)With the rapid technological advancement and innovation in Industry 4.0/5.0, digitalization has become the mainstream that transforms the paradigm of many industries, businesses, and services. In this regard, AI-enabled chatbots have been increasingly adopted by many companies for providing customer services instead of human agents. On the one hand, the use of AI-enabled chatbots provides opportunities ... -
A Digital Reverse Logistics Twin for Improving Sustainability in Industry 5.0
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-09-14)The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) and digitalization in the Industry 5.0 era have opened up new opportunities for reverse logistics management to become digitalized, smarter, more sustainable, and simplified by incorporating disruptive technologies, e.g., Internet-of-things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data analysis, simulation, blockchain, etc. ... -
A General Framework for Epidemic Logistics Management
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-01-26)Human history is full of epidemic outbreaks that occur on a regular basis. The past epidemics have resulted in millions of deaths and economic recessions. With the increasing frequency of human-induced epidemics in recent years, effective and efficient epidemic logistics management has become vital for successfully containing the spread of the disease as well as preventing societal disruption, ... -
A new dispatching mechanism for parallel-machine scheduling with different efficiencies and sequence-dependent setup times
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-02-22)he Apparent Tardiness Cost (ATC) dispatching rule was initially developed to minimize tardiness in single machine scheduling problems. ATC extensions have been frequently applied in other production settings, relying heavily on blocking idle machine capacity with a single-machine outlook; this approach may not result in the best outcomes, considering that machines have different efficiencies. This ... -
Exploring the curricular and pedagogical decision criteria for research-based learning design in undergraduate studies
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-02-13)Learning design has a multifaceted nature requiring a range of course- and institutional considerations. Analyzing the decision criteria’s influence on research-based learning design helps understand the causes of the success/failure of the approach in achieving the teaching goals to improve the study programs.
