dc.description.abstract | The isolated condition in which many indigenous peoples live in the Amazon magnifies their vulnerability to human rights violations and abuses, and challenge the states, as duty bearers, to guarantee and protect fundamental human rights for peoples who do not want to be part of state zones. This dissertation pursues to analyse how the implementation of the existing human rights legal framework and the conventional human rights thinking in the peripheries where the state is absent, such as the Amazon, where these peoples are located, can provoke a seemingly human rights paradox among the rights to self determination and the right to participation, preclude the effective exercise of interrelated human rights, and the inevitable human rights violations this produces. | en_US |
