This thesis explores moral questions and storytelling in The Witcher 3. By utilising Moral Foundations Theory, Narrative Distance and research on videogames and audiovisual storytelling it seeks to explain differences in moral thinking. It argues that The Witcher 3, is uniquely suited to the exploration of moral questions due to its fantastical elements, portrayal of human nature and branching storylines. Interactivity contributes to player engagement and involvement as they become active participants in the game's story, rather than passive bystanders. The effectiveness of traditional storytelling is argued to be enhanced through active participation, as it allows for feelings of accomplishment as well as guilt. Providing meaningful consequences to the player's actions makes the narrative experience of The Witcher 3 particularly compelling as it challenges players in many different ways. Challenges in terms of both combat and interaction with different characters promotes growth and introspection in players. This contributes both to how they experience the game's narrative, but might also foster personal development and understanding on a wider scale.en_US
