dc.description.abstract | Even though there are many studies devoted to the analysis of linguistic attitudes, it is not so frequent to find analyses that explore the attitude towards specific lexical phenomena. This work concentrates on the acceptability and perception of a series of lexical expressions, characteristic from Murcia (Spain) –a highly stigmatised variety–, both in utterances with other vernacular traits and in sentences that are otherwise written in standard European Spanish, in order to evaluate how the semantic field and other properties of the expression, as well as the usual gender and age variables, influence in the attitudes towards these elements. It is concluded that the stigmatisation depends on the cultural associations of the word and in the absence or presence of near synonyms from the standard variety that could have been used instead.
