    • Plasma levels of growth differentiation factor 15 are associated with future risk of venous thromboembolism

Hansen, Ellen-Sofie; Hindberg, Kristian; Latysheva, Nadezhda; Aukrust, Pål; Ueland, Thor; Hansen, John-Bjarne; Brækkan, Sigrid Kufaas; Morelli, Vania Maris (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-10-15)
Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15), a marker of inflammation and oxidative stress, has emerged as a biomarker for arterial cardiovascular disease. However, the association between GDF-15 and venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains uncertain. We therefore investigated the association between plasma GDF-15 levels and future risk of incident VTE and explored the potential of a causal association ...

    • Novel bio-compatible tracers for Positron Emission Particle Tracking

Chang, Yu-Fen; Balakin, Boris (Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2020-09)
To study the flow of objects (tracers) in opaque flow processes, the PEPT (positron emission particle tracking) technique is utilized. The PEPT technique is based on the same principle of PET (positron emission tomography) which detects the characteristic back-to-back gamma pairs caused by positron-electron annihilation. The annihilation takes place within a few millimeters around the tracers labeled ...

Immune‐mediated bone loss significantly impacts fracture risk in patients with autoimmune disease, but to what extent individual variations in immune responses affect fracture risk on a population level is unknown. To examine how immune responses relate to risk of hip fracture, we looked at the individual variation in a post‐vaccination skin test response that involves some of the immune pathways ...
