• Spøkelsesfiske, makrellfotball og traktoregg: norske sammensetninger og konseptuell integrasjon

Nesset, Tore (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016)
Denne artikkelen presenterer en analyse av norske sammensetninger i lys av Fauconnier og Turners (2002) teori om konseptuell integrasjon. Det argumenteres for at leddene i sammensetninger er “rombyggere” (“space builders”) som aktiverer ulike “innputtrom”, og at sammensetninger er “blandede rom” (“blends”) som integrerer informasjon fra innputtrommene. I forlengelsen av denne analysen lanseres ...
• A FOOTnote to the Jers: The Russian Trochee-Iamb Shift and Cognitive Linguistics

Nesset, Tore (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016)
This article explores the fall and vocalization of the jers, making ve claims. First, it is shown how the jer shift can be analyzed in terms of a trochaic pa ern, whereby a jer fell unless it headed a foot. Second, the foot-based approach is argued to be superior to the traditional counting mechanism postulated for the jer shift in that the foot-based approach avoids ad hoc stipulations and facilitates ...

• “Rabotnul na slavu – gul’ni smelo!”: –NU- As a Universal Aspectual Marker in Non-standard Russian

Sokolova, Svetlana (Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2015)
This article illustrates a strong tendency in modern non-standard Russian, where verbs bearing the semelfactive marker –nu- can perform various actional functions, ranging from semelfactives to Natural Perfectives and even delimitatives. The universal character of –nu- depends on the interaction of such factors as the semantics of the suffix, the semantics of the verbal stem, and constructions.
• “Cyclic” time in the history of Russian. Culture and language internal factors

Nesset, Tore (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-10-14)
This article offers a diachronic analysis of the concept of “cyclic” time in Russian, more specifically of temporal adverbials such as utrom ‘in the morning’ and vesnoj ‘in the spring’ that refer to the diurnal and annual temporal cycles in nature. It is argued that evidence from diachrony bears on important theoretical questions: Is the sensitivity to “cyclic” time in language due to ...
• Masked constituent priming of English compounds in native and non-native speakers

González Alonso, Jorge; Baquero Castellanos, Silvia; Müller, Oliver (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-05-19)
The present research explores the degree of morphological structure of compound words in the native and non-native lexicons, and provides additional data on the access to these representations. Native and non-native speakers (L1 Spanish) of English were tested using a lexical decision task with masked priming of the compound’s constituents in isolation, including two orthographic conditions to control ...
• Coming of age in L3 initial stages transfer models: Deriving developmental predictions and looking towards the future

González Alonso, Jorge; Rothman, Jason (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-05-23)
Aims: Over the past decade in particular, formal linguistic work within L3 acquisition has concentrated on hypothesizing and empirically determining the source of transfer from previous languages—L1, L2 or both—in L3 grammatical representations. In view of the progressive concern with more advanced stages, we aim to show that focusing on L3 initial stages should be one continued priority of ...

• Assessing multilingual lexical incorporation hypotheses through a primed picture-naming task

González Alonso, Jorge (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012)
The incorporation of new representations into the mental lexicon has raised numerous questions about the organisational principles that govern the process. A number of studies have argued that similarity between the new L3 items and existing representations in the L1 and L2 is the main incorporating force (Hall & Ecke, 2003; Herwig, 2001). Experimental evidence obtained through a primed picture-naming ...
• L3 acquisition: A focus on cognitive approaches

García Mayo, María del Pilar; González Alonso, Jorge (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-10-29)
Interest in third language (L3) acquisition has increased exponentially in recent years, due to its potential to inform long-lasting debates in theoretical linguistics, language acquisition and psycholinguistics. From the very beginning, researchers investigating child and adult L3 acquisition have considered the many diverse cognitive factors that constrain and condition the initial state and ...
• Deriving individual-level and stage-level psych verbs in Spanish

Fabregas, Antonio; Marín, Rafael (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015-04-28)
Aspectual notions, although displayed most clearly in verbs, manifest across categories, with notions like (un)boundedness manifesting themselves in several instantiations which are sometimes specific of individual grammatical categories. This paper contributes to the ongoing debate on how aspectual notions emerge in different categorial domains by an analysis of subject-experiencer and object-experiencer ...
• Prominence in morphology: The notion of head

Fábregas, Antonio; Masini, Francesca (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015-01)
In this paper we will discuss the notion of prominence in morphology by reviewing how morphological heads are defined through their prominence at different levels. After outlining the main issues and, specially, the problems posed by heads in morphology, we consider how prominence and headedness are dealt with in two different influential contemporary theories: Minimalism and Construction Morphology. ...
• Direccionales con 'con' y Marcado Diferencial de Objeto

Fabregas, Antonio (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015)
An understudied property of Spanish grammar is the possibility of obtaining a directional reading with a PP introduced by con ‘with’, as in Ven con papá ‘Come to daddy’. This work explores this construction taking into account both the properties of the verb and the prepositional phrase, identifying as one of the restrictions that the preposition must in such cases introduce an animate noun; this ...

Velnic, Marta (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015-10-13)
Croatian adjectives have two forms in the masculine gender: the Long (L) form and the Short (S) form. The main distributional difference is that the Short adjective can be in predicative position and the Long one cannot, while both can be in attributive position. This difference between attributive and predicative can be related to a variety of other cross-linguistic distributions concerning adjectives ...

This affects both feminine and ...
