Abstract
This work is an investigation into the meaning and current use of the Spanish grammatical form called ‘anterior preterite’ (PA, hubo terminado – was ended), comparing and analyzing contemporary written texts from the Spanish speaking world. Guided by recent and relevant bibliography, this study offers an analysis of predicates of the PA from different theoretical and empirical frameworks, like their sentential syntax and both the internal and external aspectual information of predicates. These frameworks allow for an elaborate description of the conditions under which this grammatical form is actually used.
