• Absenteeism in Norway - How does the North differ from the rest? A panel data study of the period from 2002 to 2011

Nyrud, Thomas Christer (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2014-05-30)
A panel data study of sick leave behavior in the Norwegian population is conducted on a municipality level for the period from 2002 to 2011. Data on sickness insurance usage is fitted against a selection of variables describing different regional characteristics that have been linked with absenteeism in the earlier literature. A basic model for sick leave usage is constructed, and further divided ...
    • Absorptive capacity and energy efficiency in manufacturing firms – An empirical analysis in Norway

Solnørdal, Mette Talseth; Thyholdt, Sverre Braathen (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-02)
Increased energy efficiency (EE) in manufacturing firms is important for confronting climate challenges. However, the information barrier is considered a major restriction on EE innovation. Building on the theory of absorptive capacity and the current EE literature, we argue that this barrier relates to firms' ability to assimilate and exploit information. Thus, this study's objective is to analyse ...

    • Accumulated marine pollution and fishery dynamics

Bergland, Harald; Pedersen, Pål Andreas; Wyller, John Andreas (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-04-05)
We analyze the possible impacts of pollution on a fishery by means of a dynamical systems theory approach. The proposed model presupposes that activities stimulating economic growth also cause higher emissions that remediate or accumulate in the oceans. The density of pollution is assumed to affect the fishery negatively by reducing biological growth potential and decreasing marginal willingness to ...

Jansson, Johan; Pettersson, Thomas; Mannberg, Andrea; Brännlund, Runar; Lindgren, Urban (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-07)
During the last years, many governments have set targets for increasing the share of biofuels in the transportation sector. Understanding consumer behavior is essential in designing policies that efficiently increase the uptake of cleaner technologies. In this paper we analyze adopters and non-adopters of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs). We use diffusion of innovation theory and the established ...

    • Akademisk revolusjon i bevarende omgivelser.

Moe Carstens, Nina (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2023-05-29)
    • Aktive turister gir verdier

Prebensen, Nina Katrine (Chronicle; Kronikk, 2013-06-20)
Reiselivsnæringen i Norge forteller at turistene bruker mindre penger. Hva gir valuta for pengene? Opplevelsesindustrien blir i stor ...

Borrebæk, Kamilla Marie (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2018-06-01)
This thesis is based on an ongoing project at UiT – the Arctic University in Norway. The technology presented is an innovation in mass cultivation of alga originating from the Arctic. Research at UiT and collaboration with Finnfjord AS (smelting plant) has made the technology of mass cultivation possible on an industrial scale. Growing alga is performed inside the smelting plant, and uses waste ...
    • “All along the curves”: Bridging the gap between comparative statics and simultaneous econometric models

Brækkan, Eivind Hestvik; Myrland, Øystein (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-10-31)
A simultaneous econometric model of supply and demand provides estimates of own-price effects and the effect of exogenous variables on supply or demand. Most of the time economists use elasticities derived from econometric analysis in a ceteris paribus context, more seldom in a total elasticity setting (Buse in J Farm Econ 40:881–891, 1958). Perhaps even more seldom net effects of exogenous changes ...
    • The all-pay auction with cross-shareholdings

Clark, Derek J.; Konrad, Kai A.; Riis, Christian (Working paper; Arbeidsnotat, 2007-02)
We consider an all-pay auction between several firms under asymmetric information in which each firm owns a share in its rival. We characterize the equilibrium and show how much these cross-shareholdings serve to dampen competition. Additionally, we explain why the well known relationship between the equilibrium strategies of the standard first price and all-pay auctions breaks down in our setting.
    • Ambiguity tolerance and confusion avoidance in the intent to purchase farmed fish

Hoque, Mohammed Ziaul; Bashar, Mohammad Abul; Akhter, Farzana (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-18)
Aquaculture products are presently becoming a crucial part of consumers’ diets. However, asymmetric information regarding farmed fish exposes consumers to ambiguity and often makes them confused. Therefore, this study aims to ascertain the levels of ambiguity tolerance (AT) and confusion avoidance (CA) related to farmed fish and to test if consumers’ AT and CA influence their purchase intent (PI) ...
